OHIP Coverage

WHAT DOES OHIP COVER?

  • Persons 19 and younger receive coverage once every 12 months through Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
  • Persons 65 and older receive coverage once every 12 months through OHIP.
    Persons receiving assistance under the Ontario Disability Support Program, Ontario Works or the Family Benefits Program receive coverage for routine eye examinations once every 2 years.
  • If you are between the ages of 20-64 and you have an eye disease or a medically required health condition that puts you at risk of eye disease also receive coverage once every 12 months through OHIP. Below are a list of examples:
    • Diabetes
    • Cataracts
    • Macular Degeneration
    • Glaucoma
    • Lazy eye or very poor sight
    • Recurrent corneal compromise (keratitis)
    • Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) medication usage
